The Class of 2020
The Class of 2020

This year's graduating seniors will have the most unusual stories to share about their final year of high school. The COVID-19 pandemic was responsible for March 13th being the last day of in-person attendance at school, a very abrupt ending for sure! eLearning became the new buzz word as classes were moved online. No more sports, no prom, no Senior Day, no yearbook signing, and a live graduation ceremony was questionable.

Fortunately, the governor provided some relief from the statewide stay at home order, allowing school districts to plan small-scale ceremonies. Students were allowed to invite 2 people to the ceremony, but the ceremony was live-streamed and professionally recorded so that others could witness this historic event.

Clouds hung low overhead as the 10AM ceremony at Lou Brissie Field in Riegel Stadium began, but the rain held off until just after it ended. The traditional hat toss, with faces covered by "Class of 2020" masks, signified the end of a very different and difficult year, but these graduates left WSHS with a new appreciation for family, school, friends, and traditions.

Good luck, graduates. May you always LEARN, SERVE, and LEAD!
