Our schools and students are so fortunate to have caring community partners. This year, O'Dell Corporation is providing school supplies for students at Ware Shoals Primary. Some of the employees even came during their lunch break to help distribute the supplies to classrooms! We also received supplies from the Lakelands United Way and the 8th Circuit Solicitor's Office which will be shared among the schools. Please join us in thanking all for their generosity!

SC Medicaid Annual Eligibility Reviews Resumed (Effective April 1, 2023) The South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services provides health care benefits to nearly 1.3 million South Carolinians. The agency’s mission is to be boldly innovative in improving the health and quality of life for South Carolinians. Federal law requires all state Medicaid agencies to check the eligibility status of Medicaid members annually to ensure those who are enrolled remain eligible for the program. Provisions of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) required states to maintain continuous eligibility for Medicaid members who were enrolled as of March 2020 throughout the COVID-19 federal PHE. To comply with the FFCRA, SCDHHS paused its standard annual review process and only removed members from the Healthy Connections Medicaid program if they moved, requested to be removed or passed away. The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023, passed by Congress and signed into law by President Joe Biden Dec. 23, 2022, requires state Medicaid agencies to resume their standard annual eligibility review processes April 1, 2023. If you or your children receive health care benefits (Medicaid) through the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, you need to verify and/or update your information so that you do not risk losing your health care coverage. You may do that via the new document update tool. If you need assistance with updating your information, please contact Marti Arsenault at 864-456-7496 ext. 1100 or by email at mea@gwd51.org to schedule an appointment.

Brooklyn New, 7th grade student at Ware Shoals Middle, serves as Miss Junior 4-H Teen. Recently, she traveled to Columbia for 4-H Legislative Day, where she met with local legislators and witnessed the legislative process. We are very proud of Brooklyn's leadership in the 4-H organization, which is America's largest youth development organization. She is shown here with Senator Danny Verdin, who represents Laurens and Greenville Counties.

In 2022, our state legislature passed the S.C. Child ID law. WSSD51 has been given at-home ID kits that are available for each student. To obtain a kit for your student(s), please notify the school office or your child's teacher. These are inkless, at-home kits that never enter a database. It takes about 2 minutes to complete and is to be stored at home in a cool, dry, and safe place. There is no obligation to request the kit. However, it will allow you to have your child’s vital information, fingerprints, and DNA should you ever need it. These kits are to be STORED AT HOME and should only be given to law enforcement in case of an emergency.
